Moving Up, Moving On

Kudos to Peter J. Pappas on his recent appointment to the position of chair of the Department of Surgery at The Brooklyn Hospital Center, the 653–bed, Brooklyn academic and clinical affiliate of Weill Medical College of Cornell University. Following his graduation from RWMS, Pappas completed an internship and residency in surgery at Cooper Hospital University Medical Center in Camden and subspecialty training in vascular surgery at New Jersey Medical School, where he served on the faculty for 15 years. He was a professor in the Department of Surgery and the Department of Pharmacology and Physiology, and served as residency program director for the general surgery residency program and the vascular surgery residency. He was also director of the Division of Vascular Surgery and the Vascular Laboratory.


The author of more than 60 peer-reviewed manuscripts, Pappas is a member of the New Jersey Vascular Society, Peripheral Vascular Surgery Society, American Venous Forum, Society for Vascular Surgery, American Association for Vascular Surgery, and the Eastern Vascular Society. He is the current president of the American Venous Forum, a nationally and internationally recognized society dedicated to improving the care of patients with venous and lymphatic disorders.
